Monuments Men
A group was created to find, save, and preserve as much art and artifacts as they could. Named the Monuments Men these men were actual soldiers and had to go through basic training. Many of the Monuments Men were considered old and were not very well ready for combat. Some died trying to recover the art. They found clues about where the art could be located. They discovered that the Nazis had hidden the art in salt mines. Through their work and help of locals, thousands of pieces of culture and history were recovered and put back in their rightful places in museums.
